RITM, through its Department of Virology, conducted a training course on Basic Virologic Techniques on June 24- 28, 2019 at the RITM Training Center.
The training course aimed to provide fundamental concepts in virology and equip participants with a better understanding of the principles behind different assays for diagnosing viral infections.
Sixteen (16) medical technologists, researchers, students, and veterinarians from all over the country participated in the 5-day training course. They were given the opportunity to perform a broad range of techniques, such as, virus isolation, cell line maintenance, as well as molecular and serological assays.
“As a biologist in profession, I really appreciate this training since the skills that I have learned can be applied in my current research,” says Associate Researcher Dan Joseph Logronio, MSc from the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department as he gave his feedback on the training.
Participants were also lectured on good laboratory practices and biosafety requirements in performing each procedure included in the discussion.
