Dr. Annabelle Sucuano of the RITM Surveillance and Response Unit then discussed emerging and re-emerging infections from a public health perspective, while RITM Parasitology Department Chief Supervising Research Specialist Jennifer Luchavez gave an overview of the Institute as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Malaria Diagnosis and its function as a reference laboratory.
The visit ended with a tour around the laboratory and clinical facilities of the Institute.
Being one of the specialized hospitals in the country, RITM was identified as one of the health institutions to be visited by WHO-GHLC. The visit aimed to expose the fellows to local health settings; to compare the experiences and learnings from their own country; and to translate discussions to the actual health settings in the field
