RITM Achievement Report 2016-2018

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) through its Communication and Engagement Office proudly presents the RITM Achievement Report encompassing the years 2016 to 2018. This report documents the culmination of the Institute’s combined efforts to deliver its mandate and strategic commitments in the last three years.

Since its establishment, RITM has been designated to perform specific functions and in various capacities such as World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Training Center for the Western Pacific Region (2012); Philippine National Influenza Center (2014); and National Referral Center for Management of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Other Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (2004).

To date, RITM is home to 12 National Reference Laboratories (NRLs) for various infectious diseases, providing technical expertise in the laboratory diagnosis and characterization of infectious agents in the country for surveillance, outbreak investigations and research. The NRLs likewise provide leadership in laboratory quality through the Institute’s National Quality Assurance System, training of medical technologists, and diagnostic kits evaluation.

RITM continues to pursue research programs, develop its manpower and other resources, establish and expand its linkages with local and international institutions, and disseminate research outputs for utilization of health programs.
