Joan S. Bato is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology; from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She had finished her Master of Public Health from the Institute of Community and Family Health, Inc. and is a member of the American Medical Technologist. She has been in the field of Virology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases for 16 year and is currenty working at the Department of Virology, Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. She has been involved in influenza and respiratory disease research in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control. She is currently designated at the National Reference Laboratory for Degree and other arboviruses wherein she is involved in researches with Dengue, Zika, chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis.
