The Schistosomiasis National Reference Laboratory (Schisto NRL) aims to form a professional network of sentinel regional laboratories that will provide quality diagnostic tests for schistosomiasis.

The Schistosomiasis National Reference Laboratory (Schisto NRL) is a laboratory that conducts diagnostic tests for detecting schistosomiasis (Kato Katz, COPT, CCA, FEASD); and as well as data management of prevalence data. The (Schisto NRL) serves as the coordinating and reference laboratory for the Department of Health (DOH) Schisto Control Program.

The Schisto NRL was established in 2020 by virtue of the Department of Health’s Department Order Number 2020 – 0820, and was tasked to:

  • Establish a national network of laboratories for the diagnosis and control of schistosomiasis.
  • Standardized laboratory procedures for the diagnosis of schistosomiasis.
  • Conduct trainings/seminars for national and regional personnel.
  • Collect and analyze data on the prevalence of schistosomiasis.
