The most number of recorded cases of snakebite is from rice farming areas of Bicol and Nueva Ecija. Although snakes can be beneficial in decreasing the number of mice in the rice fields, it can cost farmers their lives even with just a single bite.
The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) houses the Purified Cobra Antivenin (PCAV), the only known effective antidote for snakebites, specifically those caused by the Philippine Cobra (Naja philippinensis). RITM is the only cobra snake antivenom producer and distributor in the Philippines since the 1960s. Have you ever wondered how this lifesaver is produced?
